Event Description:

TRANSIT OF MERCURY ACROSS THE SUN!

WEATHER PERMITTING, we will have the campus observatory open for observing of the transit of Mercury across the face of the Sun.

It will be visible in Houston from dawn to 1:42 pm. However, Mercury will be small (like a small sunspot) on the face of the sun so it does need special eye protection and telescopic magnification.

Observation (if clear): 10 am to 1 pm in 4th floor observatory. If you can't see the sun (if its's overcast, rainy or foggy), we will NOT be open. We will send a cancellation notice to those on the RSI or RSI-Associates email list. If you can't make it, it will be webcast from several sites. The next ones will be 2019 and 2032!

Parking: Closest weekday visitor parking is North Annex Lot (entrance 21 then turn WEST into lot). Enter Brockman Hall and take elevator (east end) to 4th floor.  Cheaper parking in the Greenbriar lot.
