Science on Tap
The South Carolina State Museum, Midlands Astronomy Club, and Hunter-Gatherer Brewery and Alehouse, are partnering to offer a new series of science cafes. Scott Goode, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Chemistry and Biochemistry at USC, will give a presentation on the chemistry of cooking. Anthropologists point to the development of cooking as one of the giant leaps of humanity. Today, cooking is more than a way to obtain more calories from food – it has evolved to a science in which basic chemical principles can be used to transform ingredients - like flour, butter, and chocolate - into a culinary delight that bears no resemblance to its humble origins. This event is presented in partnership with the South Carolina Section of the American Chemical Society (https://southcarolinaacs.webs.com/).
The Midlands Astronomy Club will offer telescope viewing 7:30pm-9:30pm.
