Global Rocket Launch
Celebrate Apollo 11’s 50th anniversary and make history at the Global Rocket Launch event!
The NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center is excited to partner with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala., on a Global Rocket Launch to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. On July 16, 2019, the NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center joins with organizations and individuals from around the world to launch rockets in honor of the mission in which Commander Neil Armstrong took his “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
Throughout the event, we will be launching rockets that count towards the Global Rocket Launch’s goal - to break a world record!
The event will feature a variety of rocket launch types including air powered, stomp, straw, pop, and water bottles as well as a rocketry presentation and a rocket garden tour. The event will culminate with the launching of 30 model rockets built by the Virginia Space Flight Academy’s summer adventure camp students and counselors.
The Global Rocket Launch event is free and open to the public. Space and supplies are limited; outdoor activities are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather.
