The Challenger Learning Center Moon Gala

Event Date:
Saturday, July 20, 2019
Event Time:
7:00pm - 10:00pm
The Challenger Learning Center at Wheeling Jesuit University
Event Description:

The Challenger Learning Center of Wheeling West Virginia will host two events to honor the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission.

We will host a Moon Gala celebration on the evening of July 20, 2019 with historical lunar and Apollo artifacts, maps, artwork and a lunar sample. Actors will portray historical figures from Galileo to Eugene Shoemaker re-enacting the growing knowledge of the Moon. Throughout the evening Dr. Chuck Wood, a planetary scientist and former NASA astronaut trainer will provide narration of lunar exploration and especially of the suspenseful Apollo 11 landing. A silent auction will occur during the evening to help support our Moon Day event for students.

Our student Moon Day will treat local families  (parent and child event) to the performance of the Moon Timeline and Apollo video and will conclude with a simulated lunar mission and a hands-on STEM activity.

During the summer of 2019 we will also be working with local libraries, presenting at their NASA themed public programs.
