From Our Town to the Moon, Mars, and Beyond (FOTMB) is a standards-aligned, informal education program that will reach a broad network of libraries, librarians, library patrons, and other members of the public from underserved and underrepresented communities across the country. The 3-year project will provide an effective means for communities nationwide to participate in NASA-unique learning experiences and engage directly with NASA scientists and employees. It includes a hands-on, museum-quality library exhibit and tour; library facilitation kits that include authentic, active learning activities for different age groups; library staff training (online and in-person); and programs designed to help build relationships with NASA subject matter experts. An estimated 80,000 patrons will visit the exhibition, and over 150 library staff will be directly impacted by in-person workshops and training, with another 8,000 reachable via online trainings. FOTMB builds upon the success of SSI’s NASA-funded From Our Town to Outer Space project.
